We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Healthcare EDI and Data Testing Analyst with a strong foundation in healthcare data exchange, EDI transactions, and data/functional testing methodologies. The ideal candidate will possess deep, hands-on experience with EDI standards (especially 837, 835), HL7, and complex SQL queries, coupled with a rigorous approach to testing file-based systems and healthcare processes. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and compliance of our healthcare data systems through comprehensive end-to-end testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts for healthcare applications, with a primary focus on EDI transactions (837, 835, 834, 820) and HL7 standards.

  • Perform end-to-end testing of healthcare data processes, including data ingestion, transformation, validation, and output generation.

  • Conduct thorough data and functional testing of various file formats: fixed-length, variable-length, delimited (CSV, pipe, etc.), XML, and JSON.

  • Demonstrate a clear approach to data testing, including understanding how to differentiate between delimiters and text within data streams.

  • Validate complex data transformations and business rules using advanced SQL (joins, aggregate functions, subqueries, grouping) for data extraction, comparison, and integrity checks.

  • Manage the entire testing lifecycle within JIRA (or similar tools), including logging defects, tracking progress, and analyzing testing metrics.

  • Understand and apply testing strategies in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.

  • Prioritize test cases effectively based on risk, business impact, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to clarify requirements, especially regarding EDI layouts, headers, and healthcare business processes.

  • Perform root cause analysis for defects and work closely with the development team for resolution.

Mandatory Skills and Experience (Must Have)
  • 5 years of experience in software testing, with at least 3 years focused on Healthcare/Health Insurance domain.

  • Very strong and proven knowledge of EDI transactions, especially 837 (Claims), 835 (Payments), including in-depth understanding of headers, segments, loops, and data elements.

  • Strong knowledge of HL7 standards and message structures.

  • Expertise in Data and Functional Testing with a clear, methodical approach.

  • Hands-on experience testing different file layouts: fixed, variable, and delimited files. Must understand delimiter handling and common pitfalls.

  • Advanced SQL proficiency: Complex joins (INNER, LEFT, RIGHT), aggregate functions (SUM, COUNT, AVG), GROUP BY, HAVING clauses, and data manipulation for validation.

  • End-to-End Testing experience in healthcare data pipelines.

  • Practical experience with JIRA for test case management, defect tracking, and sprint planning.

  • Solid understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies: Waterfall vs. Agile.

  • Proven ability in test case prioritization and risk-based testing.

Desired Skills and Experience (Good to Have)
  • Understanding of Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) or similar government health programs.

  • Familiarity with a broader set of healthcare EDI standards (834 - Enrollment, 820 - Payment Order).

  • Experience with ETL/Data Warehouse testing concepts.

  • Exposure to test automation tools/frameworks is a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
